Sport in Israel is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sport and it plays an important role in Israeli culture. Some of the most popular sports include football, basketball, tennis, track & field, American football and baseball. Additional minor sports include handball, netball, rugby and cricket. The Maccabiah Games are an international Jewish athletic event, similar to the Olympics, held every four years in Israel since 1932.
